NMMDM visits Tlamelang Special School

Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality led by Council Speaker, Cllr Yoliswa Sechoaro took time out to visit Tlamelang Special School in Gelukspan under the “Thuma Mina” mission introduced by the President of the Republic of South Africa, Hon. Cyril Ramaphosa where he challenges Public Representatives and Community members to serve where there is a need.

The Municipality through a partnership with MaxProf provided the Tlamelang Special School learners with toiletry and other necessities such as sanitary towels for girls. MaxProf, a company that provides tax related services to the District Municipality heeded a call as part of their social responsibility to sponsor the event while making a difference in the lives of learners with special needs.

Tlamelang Special School is a Commerce school for learners with physical impairments. It is a high performance centre that receives 100% matric pass rate on annual basis. Learners excel not only in their curriculum but have represented the school in sports and music on an international platform.

It is with this great background that Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality saw fit to spend a day with these learners who might seem to be neglected. ”We are visiting you because you are unique and you are special to our hearts, there is no one like you”, said Council Speaker Yoliswa Sechoaro. “As we celebrate the Centenaries of Tata Nelson Mandela and Mme Albertina Sisulu we want to honour them by giving back to you, our children”

Ms Pamela Pege who represented ProfMax reiterated the word of the Council Speaker and reminded the learners how special they are “You should know God made you the way u are, you are not a mistake, and the fact that we came here bearing these gifts, proves it all”

Mr Kagiso Thebe, a learner at the school and also a Learner Representative Council President said he was extremely happy because he has been waiting on the District Municipality to keep their commitment as promised. He further emphasise that, “with the recent outrage of teacher killings, I can’t begin to comprehend how a learner would raise a hand to a teacher, that person is a parent in your life”.

Mr Thebe thanked the love the District Municipality and ProfMax has showed in their lives and promised that the school will continue getting a 100% pass rate in Exams.

Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality will continue to display its commitment as Leaders in Integrated Municipal Governance by ploughing back to the communities they serve through social cohesion programmes.
